In 2006, Mount Pleasant was named by Money magazine as one of the top 100 places to live in the United States, and it’s only grown more popular in the time since. The area is known for its dignified neighborhoods, high-quality schools, extensive recreational opportunities, upscale shopping, and fine dining.
Mount Pleasant lies a mere few minutes from peninsular Charleston via the Arthur Ravenel Bridge spanning the Cooper River. The eight-lane, cable-stayed bridge built in 2005 offers spectacular views of downtown Charleston, the Cooper River, and the surrounding marsh areas.
Composed of a mixture of older and newer neighborhoods, Mount Pleasant maintains the rich heritage and small-town feel that has been present since its founding in 1680.
The Old Village, per the name, is an example of one of the older, more historic areas of Mount Pleasant; many of the structures in this waterfront neighborhood were built in the 1800s as summer homes for wealthy citizens of downtown Charleston. Populated with families and older residents, this area is one of the most picturesque parts of town.
Seven diverse neighborhoods form Belle Hall Plantation. All kinds of houses are available here, from single-starter homes to upwards of 5,000 square-feet homes. Conveniently located just off of I-526, residents are within walking distance to Belle Hall Shopping Center and Belle Station, which offer grocery stores, coffee shops, clothing stores, and other amenities. Children can even walk to Belle Hall Elementary School by a shortcut through the neighborhood.
Situated next to the large shopping complex of Mount Pleasant Towne Center and only a short drive from downtown Charleston or the white-sand beaches of Isle of Palms, Park West has it all— single-family homes, town homes, condominiums, and assisted living care. Medical, dental, veterinary, banking, law, and fitness businesses constitute only a portion of services that are available here. There’s also a child-care facility, an educational campus, six miles of biking and hiking paths, a swim and tennis club, and parks and playgrounds.
Aside from its prominent neighborhoods, Mount Pleasant draws attention with its host of popular attractions: Boone Hall Plantation, one of America’s oldest working plantations; Towne Center, an upscale shopping center with more than 65 national and local storefronts; and Patriots Point, a naval and maritime center and museum.
